Gary Dean Smith

September 14, 1944 — August 9, 2021

This world is not my home, I’m just passing through. On Monday, August 9, 2021, Gary Dean Smith, age 76, of Hot Springs, went to be with his Lord and Savior. He fought a courageous battle to cancer until he drew his last breath surrounded by his family.

He was born September 14, 1944, in Sunshine, Arkansas, to his loving parents, Arlie and Jennie Smith-Smith. He is predeceased by his parents; and six brothers, Horace, Troy, Gerald, A. Lee, Stanley and Truett Smith.

Gary was a member of Glory Bound Baptist Church and Switch Trail Hunting Club. He graduated from Lake Hamilton in 1962. He retired from Wonder Bread after 28 years. Gary worked in area churches with the youth, music ministry, and volunteered with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. He was a deacon. He was a man of God, and an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and hunting with his sons, gardening, and feeding the deer and birds. He loved his family unconditionally. His greatest pleasures in life were his children, grandchildren and great-grandbaby. He always had a hug to give, a smirk on his face, a joke or silly comment to make to one of them. Grandpa is remembered for his pink pants, helping grandpa sneak sweets so grandma wouldn’t find out due to being a diabetic, and the many life lessons he taught them.

Survivors include the love of his life of 57 years, Brenda Gail Lay Smith; his two sons of which he was very proud of , Timothy Dean Smith, and Jeffrey Scott Smith and wife, Ashlea of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Bridgette Nicole Smith-Hardage of Bismarck, and Alea Beck and husband Timothy, of Mountain Pine; one grandson, Bryson Hunter Smith of Hot Springs; two great-granddaughters, Alena Rose Beck and Harper Grace Beck, due in September; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Truman and Ruth Smith of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Larry and Sheila Smith of Hot Springs.

A Celebration of Life service will be 10:00AM, Thursday, August 12, 2021, with Rev. Bernard Rusert officiating, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs. Mask are requested.

Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00PM-8:00PM, Wednesday.

Pallbearers are his grandson, Bryson Smith, grandson-in-law, Timothy Beck, nephews, Edward Smith, Lynn Ray Smith, Todd Smith, and special friend of the family, Carl Keener.
