Joann Augusta Powell

Joann Augusta Powell, age 85, of Norman, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. She was born on February 14, 1935 in Waldron, the daughter of Walter Columbus Johnston and Louisa Belle Argenbright Johnston. On August 31, 1950, she was married to N. L. Powell who preceded her in death on April 22, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her five older brothers. Mrs. Powell was a wonderful homemaker who took good care of her family. When you came to her home, you needed to prepare to be fed, even if you werent hungry. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She was a long-time member of the Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church near Mount Ida. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Joanna Powell, Terrel and Deborah Powell and Rod and Regina Powell, all of Norman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Steve Edward Pittman and Sharla and Tim Atkinson, all of Glenwood; thirteen grandsons, Steven Paul Pittman, Joey Powell, Jason Powell, Joshua Powell, Jacob Powell, John Powell, Zachary Powell, Seth Powell, Hayden Powell, Roger Crawford, David Crawford, Gerren Atkinson and Daniel Pittman; two granddaughters, Miranda Russell and Heather Cole; and thirty-six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, May 22, 2020, in the Powell Cemetery with Bro. Barry Norman officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
