Mildred Magar Burgen

Mildred Magar Burgen, age 69, of Norman, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

She was born on March 17, 1952, in Ashdown, the daughter of Wesley Henry Magar and Georgia Lee Greenwalt Magar. On August 16, 1968, she married Derrell Burgen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas Magar and her infant brother, Henry Magar.

Mildred attended Norman High School and loved playing the piano at church, and later, playing for her grandchildren to sing. She adored young people and was a mentor to many through the years. Mildred was a member of the Culvert Springs Assembly of God Church and served as the church pianist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She cherished her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Derrell Burgen of Norman; her children and their spouses, Esney Burgen and his fiancé, Marilyn Carothers, of Russellville, Bobby Burgen and Michelle Pickett of Joplin, Missouri, Naomi and Leslie Portugal of Russellville, and the grandchildren she raised, Daniel Burgen, Jonathan Burgen, Jeffery Burgen, all of Norman, and Katelyn and Scott Freeman of Glenwood; her grandchildren and their spouses, Lessica and Joey Duncan, Leston Portugal, Charley Burgen, Alesha Carlson and Shaunda and Alex Hernandez; her great-grandson, Gabriel Hernandez; her brothers and their spouses, Windel and Jeanette Magar of Hot Springs, Espye and Glenda Magar of Mena; her sisters and their spouses, Ida and Eugene Pate of Amity, Ann and Everett Phillips of Harrison and Faye and Gary Phillips of Hot Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 25, 2021, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Jerry Fagan, Naomi Portugal and Katelyn Freeman officiating.

Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Black Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Burgen, Jeffery Burgen, Charley Burgen, Esney Burgen, Leslie Portugal and Scott Freeman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charley Burgen, Sr., Daniel Burgen, Leston Portugal and the nurses of CHI St. Vincent, Hot Springs ICU.
