Roy Lee O'Neal, Sr.

Roy Lee O’Neal, Sr., age 81, of Glenwood, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021.

He was born on May 4, 1940, in Fancy Hill. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elbert and Irene Cogburn Vaughn; his father, Alfred Richard O’Neal; one brother, Max Vaughn; and one sister, Ozel Yarbrough. On December 16, 1961, he was married to the true love of his life, Linda Carole Mann O’Neal.

Roy was a master carpenter by trade, was involved in the building of many well-known structures in the Hot Springs area and was a long-time member of the Local Carpenters Union of Hot Springs. He was also a Master Mason for 50 years and a member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge 662 (Glenwood) and Amity. Roy was an extremely talented and professional musician who had the privilege of playing his bass guitar with several famous musicians, such as Sonny James, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and former Governor Mike Huckabee. Roy was a life-long member of the Hilltop Full Gospel Church and was an avid Razorback football fan.

Above all of Roy’s wonderful accomplishments, his family was his greatest. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and always cherished every moment he was spending time with his family, whom he loved with all his heart. Roy will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him, but he has left us with many memories that we will carry in our hearts forever.

Roy Lee is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carole O’Neal of Glenwood; his four children, Effie O’Neal, Roy O’Neal, Jr. and his wife, Belinda, all of Glenwood, Vicki Davis of Topeka, Kansas and Vanessa Lacaden, of Gulfport, Mississippi; eight grandchildren, Roy O’Neal, III and his wife, Alyson O’Neal, Anthony Green, Michael O’Neal and his wife, Breanna O’Neal, Zachary Cope, Bayleigh Cope, Steven Drewes, Dillion Lacaden and Vallen Lacaden; his great-granddaughter, Zelda O’Neal; his brother-in-law, Johnny Yarbrough of Glenwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Eric Wehunt and Jerry McCoy officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery with full Masonic rites to be conducted by the Glenwood Masonic Lodge 662.

Pallbearers will be Roy O’Neal, III, Anthony Green, Michael O’Neal, Steven Drewes, Ronnie Whisenhunt and Timothy Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Cope, Johnny Cantrell, George Rice, Tom Golden, Chris Hopper and Gene Reid.
