Sevella Marie Davis

Sevella Marie Davis, age 93, of Athens, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014. She was born on September 3, 1921, in Athens, the daughter of Alex Pate and Minnie Tallant Pate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cohen Durah Davis; her parents; four sons, Roger Davis, David Ray Davis, Randy Davis and Nebo Davis; her infant daughter; and three brothers, Columbus Barnes, Curt Sharp and Harold Pate. She was a member of the Trinity Holiness Church. She enjoyed quilting, working her garden and especially loved all of her family. Always a hard worker, her earlier years found her farming, raising chickens, planting trees, skidding logs, even working the family sawmill. Through all of the work, she never neglected having her family in the house of the Lord. She is survived by nine children and their spouses, Wayne and Barbara Davis and Joann and Donald Welch, all of Glenwood, Gloria and Tony White of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ronnie and Carlene Davis of DeQueen, C J and Judy Davis of Umpire, J D and Joann Davis of Eunice, New Mexico, Brenda and Danny McGrew of Glenwood, Lonetta and Harmon Counts of Oden, and Ottesa and Jimmy Little of Athens; 21grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Bartie and Vera Pate of Fort Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 26, 2014, in the Athens Holiness Church with Bro. Bill Wakley and Bro. Tracy Welch officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Athens Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Steven McGrew, John Dean Davis, Cohen Davis, Tracy Welch, DeWayne Little, Todd Little, Christopher Counts and Jamie Counts. Honorary pallbearers will be Myrel Pate, Rick Pate, G. L. Gibson, Jimmy Jones, Jerry Mullins and James Mullins.
