Adam McClung

Adam J. McClung, 37, of Vilonia, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock after a brief, but severe illness. He was born Feb. 11, 1980, in Conway to parents, Dickie and Marshia. On July 3, 2010, he married Chantel Powell in Little Rock. On May 26, 2015, Adam and Chantel welcomed a daughter, Magdelana "Maggie" Blair.

Adam graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1998. He went to Eastern Oklahoma State College and Oklahoma State University on livestock judging scholarships, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science with emphasis on Business and Agriculture Economics. He worked in the cattle industry almost his entire career. Starting as director of membership for the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, Adam had a passion for the cattle industry and the farm and ranch families who made it all happen. He served for a year as the director of industry relations with the Oklahoma Beef Council before returning to Arkansas Cattlemen's Association in 2009 to serve as the executive vice president.

Leaders in the cattle industry call Adam a transformational leader who elevated the presence and effectiveness of ACA through policy in the state legislature, membership expansion and empowering youth through the creation of the Young Cattlemen's Leadership Class. Adam honored tradition, but pushed change when it was necessary to improve the cattle industry. His relentless efforts to bring positive change to the beef cattle industry and all of agriculture spurred the White House and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to recognize him in 2014 as just one of 15 "Champions of Change" leaders from across the country.

Adam loved his family. His wife was his best friend and life got even sweeter when they welcomed their daughter in 2015. He was a devoted father and found a renewed focus in life with the addition of his little girl. Adam was a man of faith, frequently sharing his convictions with others and he took his role as a Mason very seriously. He belonged to the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Vilonia. He was an outdoorsman in every sense of the word. Fly fishing, hunting, trapping and just being outdoors consumed what little spare time he had. He was also a barbeque enthusiast, even doing so competitively. Unbeknownst to many, Adam was a great vocalist and guitar player. Adam and his family raised cattle and spent a lot of time improving the farm they called 7 Diamond 3 McClung Cattle Co.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marshia Coleman. In addition to his wife and daughter, Adam is survived by his father, Dickie McClung; stepfather, George Coleman; and sisters, Hannah and Sarah McClung.
