Dr. Alfred William Keller, Jr. was born February 21, 1951 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Alfred William Keller, Sr. and Mary Virginia Keller. He was a life long resident of North Little Rock, except for two years spent in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where his dad transferred for work. Al attended Lakewood Elementary, North Little Rock High, and graduated from Jonesboro High. He attended Vanderbilt University and was a graduate of UAMS, where he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. On April 18, 1981, Al married the love of his life Sara Walton Keller. The love they shared with each other knew no bounds and those around them witnessed this firsthand.
In July of 1980, he began a long and successful practice at the North Little Rock Women's Clinic with Dr. Dale Fuller where they worked together until February of 2013. Over those many years, other partners joined the clinic but Al and Dale were always the backbone of the practice. During Al's career he delivered well over 7,000 babies and he loved every one of them. Of those 7,000, he particularly loved his two sons, Dr. Alfred William Keller, III and Benjamin Paul Keller. Above all else, they were his greatest achievements in life.
Among his other accomplishments and accolades, Al was a dedicated servant to his city and the community. He was a diplomat of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, an Eagle Scout, an avid outdoorsman, a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, a member of the Argenta City Club, a 4th degree Knight of the Heber Springs, Arkansas Knights of Columbus, a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Albert's Catholic Church, a constant beacon of faith in God and a faithful Catholic, a fiercely loyal and loving friend, and, most importantly, a devoted husband and father.
He spent his last two years of life living in his dream home on North Hills Blvd. right on the lake he grew up around. Al spent many days during his childhood fishing the same waters with his own father. Every morning, he loved watching the sun rise and shine out over the water, but he particularly enjoyed sitting with his family and watching the sun set over his lake.
On February 19th, the Keller family and the Garrison family came together at Al's beloved house and watched Will Keller and Drew Garrison become husband and wife with Al's lake in the background. Al was not able to attend the formal ceremony on March 2, 2013, but he was there in spirit as Will and his daughter-in-law Drew exchanged vows.
Al left our lives for the next at 8:45 a.m. on March 5, 2013. He passed away in the house he gave his family surrounded by the people who loved him more than anything. As he passed, what started as a cloudy, windy morning blew away into a beautiful day with the sun shining on his lake and on all of us. Al is survived by his loving wife Sara, his two sons Will and Ben, daughter-in-law Drew, his sister Sally, his nieces Amy and Claire, and his countless friends and extended family who loved him dearly.
Romans 8:28, 31: And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose...What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Al's name to either UAMS Family Home, 4300 W. Markham St., Little Rock, Arkansas 72205, or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Music Ministry, 7000 J.F.K. Blvd., North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116. A Vigil service and Rosary is scheduled for Sunday, March 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
