Alma Long Howard, age 96, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Little Rock, AR following a brief illness. Alma was born on March 4, 1920 to Nellie Pearl White and Thomas Loyd Harrell of the Wattensaw Community, Lonoke County, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Tom Long, only sibling Finis Ray (Buddy) Long (1998), and her husband of 53 years, Thomas E. Howard (1999) of Derry, NH. They resided in Derry, NH, Miami, Fl, Nashville, Tn and retired to Hot Springs Village, AR to be closer to her brother. She was employed as a part-time bookkeeper in Nashville, TN. They were lifelong Methodists and members of the Hot Springs Village United Methodist Church. Following Tom's death she resided in Little Rock, AR to be closer to family.
She is survived by nieces, Julie Long Dykes (Larry) of Flower Mound, TX and Ruby Long Slayden (John) of Little Rock, AR, and nephew, Jimmy R. Long (Lizan) of Bella Vista, AR. Alma was an avid Razorback football and basketball fan, never missing TV or radio broadcast games. She enjoyed her wide range of friends, including her monthly luncheon group, "The Dogs" and especially, her weekly MahJongg group and her many friends and neighbors of Hot Springs Village, Treetops and Woodland Heights.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice Home Care and Doctors Joe Pevahouse, Sue Ulmer, Doug Holloway and Morgan Sauer. Special thanks to caregiver Barbara Ellis and family friends Bitsy Davis, Bernie Stevens, Jean Stearker and her four boys.
