Alva Lee McBroom

Alva Lee McBroom, age 93, of Hot Springs, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

She was born on July 20, 1930, in Crossett, Arkansas, the daughter of James Edward Powell and Virdie Bell Dean Powell.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William McBroom, her parents, and her siblings.

Alva was a life-long Christian and a member of Red Oak Missionary Baptist Church in her later years.  Above all else, Alva Lee derived immense joy from teaching her children about Jesus. She fervently shared her faith and created a nurturing environment that instilled strong values in her family. The impact of her teachings will be carried on by future generations who were fortunate enough to have known her wisdom and love.

She was a shining example of kindness and joy which served her well as a wife and homemaker for her husband during his 22-year Navy career and for the remainder of their marriage together. Her warm smile could light up any room, and her infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew her. She had a heart full of love for everyone she encountered and never met a stranger.

Throughout her life, Alva Lee found delight in simple pleasures. Her green thumb was evident on the many beautiful porches she lovingly tended, which bloomed with vibrant colors that mirrored her spirit. She loved to clean and make sure everyone picked up after themselves.  Her deep faith was an integral part of her life, and gospel music uplifted her soul.

She is survived by six sons, Donnie Rayford Tate, Sr. and wife, Kathy, Reginald David McBroom, Barry Lynn McBroom, William McBroom, Jr.  and wife, Barbara, Robert Todd McBroom and wife, Lana, and Timothy Ryan McBroom, one daughter, Leigh Maria Thomas and husband, Derek, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, as well as a host of wonderful friends.
