Andrea "Andie" Marie Chambers Mead Fletcher passed from this earth at home on June 27th surrounded by family. She was born April 17, 1945 near Pine Bluff AR in the Union community to Joe Melvin Frank Chambers and Iva Marie King Chambers. Her biological parents were killed by a tornado in 1947. She and her older sister Sandra Jo were later adopted by her mother's sister (Orpha Grace King Mead) and her husband (Junius Baron Mead). Orpha and Junius' daughter Linda also helped raise both of them and remained close to them throughout their lives.

Andie graduated from Benton High School and attended the University of Arkansas for two years. She married William "Bill" Fletcher in September 1964 and after moving to Hot Springs when he graduated from college, she finished her teaching degree at Henderson State University. She taught home economics at Mountain Pine and Lake Hamilton high schools before taking a break from teaching when her sons were born. After returning to teaching, she taught fifth grade math, science, and social studies at Lake Hamilton elementary school.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church where she was the vacation bible school coordinator for several years in her early adulthood and sang in the choir for many years in later adulthood. She was a Charter member and the first president of the Lake Hamilton Opti-Mrs. Club (ladies auxiliary to the Optimist Club) in 1977-78. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority for teachers.


She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Fletcher, sons Brent Fletcher (married to Diane Kim) of San Diego CA and Matt Fletcher (married to Sherri Fletcher) of Hot Springs, her sister Sandra Jo Chambers Mead Smith of Portland TX , her adopted sister/first cousin Linda Mead Fullerton of Little Rock AR, and grandsons Brad and Owen Fletcher.


Arrangements are by Smith Family Funeral Home. A public visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30pm on July 1st. A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 11th at First Lutheran Church of Hot Springs.. Memorials in her name may be made to First Lutheran Church of Hot Springs.
