Ann James

Ann Dorsey James, 83, of Little Rock died February 18, 2013. She was born August 1, 1929 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Sam Edson Dorsey and Lois Collins Dorsey. After growing up in Hopewell, Virginia, Ann attended Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, graduating in 1950 with a degree in history. Prior to moving to Little Rock in 1995, Ann lived for 40 years in Memphis, Tennessee, where she was a long-time employee at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Ann's interests included painting, birding, music, and handwork, but she was known by her many friends for her volunteer activities. These included Girl Scout leadership, serving as a library volunteer, and a variety of church activities such as leading small groups, most recently at Little Rock's First Christian Church, where she was a member.
Ann is survived by her children Nancy James Dunavant (Gary) of Birmingham, Alabama, Catherine James Howser (O.C.) of Little Rock, Arkansas and Joseph Sheppard James III (Kelly) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as grandchildren, Gregory James Dunavant (Dixon) of Atlanta, Georgia, Daniel Hunter Dunavant of Birmingham, Bailey Ann James of Tulsa, and Joseph Sheppard James IV of Tulsa. She is also survived by her sister, Lois Catherine Garwood of Columbus, Ohio and brother, William Edson Dorsey (Jessie) of Carmichael, California. Memorials can be made to Heifer International or the Food Pantry at First Christian Church in memory of Ann James. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
