Anne Powell-Black

Anne Powell-Black of North Little Rock, AR, lovingly referred to as “Mommy Anne” by her family, passed away May 16th, 2026. Anne was born February 26, 1942, in Fayetteville, AR, the daughter of Clifford and Frances Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Black with whom she has shared 36 wonderful years. She is also survived by her daughters Leslie Clement and Stephanie Powell, one bonus daughter, Jennifer Johnston, son, Michael Powell (Dr. Melissa Powell), nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Anne received her CLU (chartered life underwriter) and CHFC (chartered financial consultant) designations from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. She was president of American Home Life Insurance Company, which she inherited from her father in 1969. She became president at the time until retirement in 2023 at age 81. She was very active in the life insurance industry. She served as president of the AR Life Underwriters, the first woman to be president of a state underwriter’s association. She was also president of the local life underwriters, the CLU, CHFC chapter and the AR General Agents and Managers Association.

Anne enjoyed many adventures and trips with her loved ones during her lifetime,especially trips to the beach, Greers Ferry, and Chicago. She and her husband Bob went on many cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, but her favorite trip was when they took the Amtrack train to San Francisco. She went over and above for her family, especially her grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and resilience, but also one of kindness, acceptance, and love. She inspires people who knew her to show up fully for themselves as well as others, to be unafraid to try new adventures, and to be confident to blaze their own trails.

Anne was an active member of Christ Church. A Celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 AM,Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Christ Church, Little Rock.  Anne will be interred at Christ Church.
