Barbara Jean Caviness, a devoted caregiver and a kindhearted soul, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026. She was born to George R. Reed and Thelma G. Hall on November 6, 1936, in Fremont, Nebraska. Barbara dedicated much of her life to serving others, demonstrating a selflessness that touched all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Arlan K. Caviness; her daughter, Linda K. Couch; her sister, Joan Massey; her brother, Leroy Reed; and her step-brother, Bill Davenport.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jennifer Ingram (Jeff), and son, Sharlan Caviness; her grandchildren, Christopher Ingram, Preston Caviness, Ashlynn Caviness, and Spencer Couch. Sister, Karen Thall; her half-sister, Donna Clift; and numerous other family members and friends will carry her memory with them always.
After being a caregiver to her mother-in-law, Luella Caviness, Barbara became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Barbara’s commitment went far beyond the duties of her role. Her compassion and dedication brought comfort and care to countless patients, reflecting her generous spirit and unwavering kindness. She retired from Presbyterian Village Nursing Home in 2004.
A member of Little Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church, Barbara cherished her faith and found joy in simple pleasures such as crocheting, gardening, and watching birds. She treasured spending time nurturing her garden and observing nature’s beauty. Barbara was a hardworking woman who always put the needs of her family and others before her own. Her family held a special place in her heart, and she enjoyed every moment spent with them.
Family, friends, and all who knew Barbara are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will be held on May 14, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home Benton, located at 322 North Market Street, Benton, Arkansas. A graveside service will follow on May 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 10201 Highway 5 North, Alexander, Arkansas.
Barbara Jean Caviness’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and sacrifice. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. Her gentle spirit and caring nature will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
