Listen to Obituary

Barbara Ann Donathan, born June 27, 1942, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026. Leaving behind a life filled with faith, family, and stories that will be told for years to come.

Barbara was the daughter of Doyle and Reba Hardin and grew up alongside her sisters, Norma Bowlin and Becky Holloway. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Donald Donathan, her sister Norma, and her nephew Mark Bowlin.

Barbara shared a deep and devoted marriage with her late husband, Donald. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and a love of travel. Whether pulling their travel trailer across the country or setting out on new adventures with close friends and family, they embraced each journey with joy. Their final great adventure together—a memorable drive to Alaska—remained one of Barbara’s favorite stories to share.

She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Debra (Marc) Stewart and Terri Rhodes, and nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren: Kirsten Whitman (Michael), Sydney Matusoff (Kyle), Cole Stewart, Drake Rhodes, Caroline Stewart, Kaitlyn Harris (Zach), and Hunter Rhodes. Becoming a great-grandmother to six only added to that joy. Her grandchildren called her ‘Monu’. And to them she was a constant source of love, encouragement, and warmth.

Barbara’s faith in God was the foundation of her life. Her church family at Community of Christ surrounded her with fellowship and support through the years, and she, in turn, gave that same love and encouragement to others.

The family would like to thank the special people who provided love, care, and support to Barbara: Gina Foshee, her devoted caregiver; Brittany Burks with Gentiva Hospice; Tabita, Samuel, and Britney at Fortress Living; and the caring staff at Brookfield Memory Care.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place Saturday, April 18, at 10:00 a.m., with both services held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs. A graveside service will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
