Listen to Obituary

Belinda "Kay" Caancan, 72, of Maumelle, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026. Born in Searcy, Arkansas, on August 10, 1954 to Clinton and Mildred Southerland, she was the oldest of five children. Kay was a beloved presence whose kindness, warmth, and devotion to her family and friends left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy (1974–1978) who lived a life rich in honor, love, and cherished memories with those she held dear.

Throughout her full and colorful life, Kay found her greatest joy and peace in simple, beautiful moments. Kay dearly loved spending time in person or on the phone just catching up with her family members. She also loved getting lost in books, researching new topics and, most cherished, creating many special memories with her granddaughter. Her life-long connection to the ocean from her early years in the Navy could be seen by her gentle fondness for sea turtles, light houses and her love for the sea's vibrant shades of green and blue.

Preceded in death by her husband Archie Caancan and her parents, Clinton and Mildred Southerland. Survived by her daughter Laurie Bridgeman (Mike), granddaughter Mikayla Bridgeman, and step-granddaughter Iris Bridgeman. Also survived by her four siblings - Larry Southerland (Bev); Rita Carel (Jim); Joe Southerland (Joanna); and Gary Southerland, as well as many loving nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

Kay’s kindness, sense of humor and positive outlook on life will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
