Benny "Joe Buddy" Elkins

Avid outdoorsman, Benny Elkins, 84, born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed from this world on April 17, 2023. He passed away at home in North Little Rock holding the hand of his loving wife, Rose.

Along with being an avid outdoorsman, Benny served in the military from 1959-1965. He retired from NLR Wastewater after 25 years of dedicated service. During his time playing semi-professional basketball, he was fortunate to play against NBA legends Wilt Chamberlin and Jerry West. Benny was named MVP his senior year of high school. Along with these accomplishments, he taught himself algebra in ninth grade so that he could teach his classmates since his school did not have an algebra instructor. He was also a lover of music and was always playing his numerous instruments. Benny was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Piccola Elkins, two brothers Vendal Elkins and William (Beverly) Elkins.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose Elkins; three sisters, Patricia Johnson, Vicky Elkins, and Violet (Ralph) Kelley. He is also survived by his children, Cindy (Bill) Perez, Benny Joe (Michelle) Elkins Jr, Randy (Laneice) Elkins, Allen (Renee) Elkins, Sarah (Tim) Hayes. In addition, he is survived by his 26 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He also loved four fur babies, Bouzer, Clyde, Honey Cat, and PPK. Benny was also fortunate to have four bonus children, Joseph (Melissa) Long, Jason (Christy) Long, Tommy (Beth) McElroy, and Tony Moon.

Visitation will be April 19, 2023, between 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home in North Little Rock. Service will be April 20, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home with interment at Pinecrest Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas at 3:00 PM with Pastor Fred Dollar officiating.
