Betty Faye McGrew

Betty Faye McGrew, age 89, of Glenwood, went to her eternal reward on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

She was born on April 22, 1937, in Glenwood. She was the daughter of Calvert Grant and Gladys Wright Grant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray McGrew; her daughter, Carolyn Gail (Moore) Vik; her granddaughter, Rachelle (McGrew) Brown; her two brothers, Max Grant and Kenneth Grant; and her sister, Ina (Grant) Standridge.

On May 16, 1953, Betty married the love of her life, Billy Ray McGrew. Together they owned and operated Billy Ray McGrew Auto Sales, McGrew Western Store, and McGrew Livestock.

Betty was a member of Mount Tabor Holiness Church. She loved being a homemaker, sewing, cooking for her family, and had a servant’s heart for the community. She shared with thousands of people chocolate pies, coconut pies, fried pies. Betty always gave to others and brought food for those in need.

Betty wore many hats but her favorite job was being “Granny” for her family. Her grandchildren wrote: She emanated class. Prim, proper and a ball of fire. She was fiercely devoted to her family. Although she could put you in your place with just a few words or a look, at the same time, you knew it came from a place of love.

She had a servant's heart, showed kindness to everyone she met, cooked countless meals for her family and for those in need or to comfort hurting hearts.

She was everyone’s Granny. She had a warm smile and an inviting presence to all those who were fortunate enough to have met her.

The things that we admire about Granny. Her loving ways, her kindness and compassion to others, her strength and consistency. Her quiet grace. All of those attributes are a reflection of her Savior, whom she loved and served with all her heart. We are blessed to have walked in the warmth of the light she created through her dedication to Him.

Another wrote: I know everyone thinks their Granny is the best, but through my eyes, mine truly was. Growing up, Granny was always up for whatever I wanted to do or at least that's how she made me feel. She sewed my dresses, took me shopping, decorated cakes, helped me clean, and even made the drive to Oklahoma after I married, willing to help make life a little easier.

I remember telling a friend when I was little, “At Granny’s, you can have anything you want.” Looking back, it wasn’t about what she gave me, but how she made me feel so loved and so special.

Granny was incredibly talented, gave freely, and never expected anything in return. She loved BIG, and I know every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren felt the same way. Life will never be the same without her, and I can only hope to be half of what she was to me and so many others.

An obituary is often and most always a summary of the ones in our lives that share our DNA or lineage in some way, but Granny was much more than words on paper because if she were there, words could never do justice for her.

Because if she met someone over a time or two, she would most likely take them on her heart and remember to think of them, pray for them, or do the kindest thing unexpectedly as if they were family, whether they were from the upper echelons or the lowest estate.

She had a God-given gift to sense a need. Most always when leaving the presence of Granny, a person wanted to be better than they were before, and oh my, what a legacy to leave behind.

Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Brenda McGrew; her son-in-law, Aaron Vik; her grandchildren, Alan (Bridgette) Moore, Chad Moore, Brandon (Rebekah) Brown, Danielle (Brandon) Cassidy, Brad (Brandi) Vik, Steven (Beth) McGrew, Dustin (Katrina) Vik, and Janelle (Bradley) Cottrell; her twentyfive great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Carol Ray Grant; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and granddaughters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mount Tabor Holiness Church, 35 Pigeon Roost Rd, Glenwood, AR 71943.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mount Tabor Holiness Church.

Interment will be held at Mount Tabor Cemetery.
