Betty L. Richards

January 28, 1946 — June 11, 2022

Little Rock

Betty L. Richards, 76, of Little Rock passed away June 11, 2022. Born January 28, 1946, to Herman and Martha Dawson in Carlisle, she was a longtime member of Bryant’s Indian Springs Baptist Church and was well known in central Arkansas as a business woman and philanthropist.

Betty’s business ventures included the family’s motorcycle and automobile dealership, Richards Honda, founded by her late husband Dan Richards Sr. which still today operates as a motorcycle dealership in Little Rock. In 1987, Betty helped found and operate the trucking and transportation company, Rich Logistics, that sold in 2014. In 2012, together with her husband, Thomas Quarles, they renovated an historic property on Cantrell Road and opened the Packet House Grill.  In 2015, they purchased two RV and mobile home parks; Indian Springs Park in Bryant and Shady Oaks Park in Bald Knob, which they operated until 2021.

Aside from her business dealings, Betty was passionate about helping others. She was an ardent supporter of the Dorcas House in Little Rock that serves women and children. Through the years she gathered thousands of pounds of food for the Arkansas Food Bank through the Summer Cereal drive and other relief organizations. She worked year-round to assemble hundreds of shoe boxes filled with toys and supplies that were distributed to children worldwide through Samaritan’s Purse.

Betty is survived by her husband Thomas Quarles and his two children, Justin Quarles of Topeka, KS and Ami Hoff (Jason) of Gainesville, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Dan W. Richards Sr., and is also survived by his two children Dan Richards Jr. (Diana) of Paron, and Charlotte Detillo of Byhalia, MS. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dan Richards III (Sherri), Terri Cowell (Richard), Benny Richards (Karen), Mike Day (Catherine), and Michelle Day and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
