Billie Knox

Billie Hall Knox entered into eternal rest on November 6, 2017 after 95 blessed years. Her devotion to her family, her firm and steadfast faith, and her resilient and independent spirit will leave a legacy for all those who love her.

Billie was born to the late Homer and Linnie Hall of Lonoke County on October 10, 1922. She was born and raised and attended high school in the Cabot area where she took her love of sports to the basketball court and was a true athlete at a time when women were not often found pursuing interests in sports. Billie always broke the mold, and she was a forerunner and an example for women to follow their passions and pursue their hearts' desires regardless of society's expectations.

After high school, Billie's independent spirit took her to St. Louis to pursue a career in Nursing. Soon after she began attending classes, World War II broke out, and she returned home to be with her family. After the war, Billie met and fell in love with James Elliott Knox, and they were married on April 11, 1947.

Though Billie was never able to fulfill her dream of entering the medical field, she did leave a legacy of helping and serving others through her service to the Little Rock School District. She retired from Franklin Elementary after many years as a devoted employee and office manager.

In her retirement, that fun and independent spirit again took her on many adventures. She loved to travel and would often be found on the open road between Arkansas and California enjoying the sights and spending her time with family and friends. She loved playing games and wasn't afraid to show her competitive nature, often threatening death upon even family members who challenged her over a board game. She was a risk taker in life and in the casino, and it always paid off, maybe not in financial gain, but in a life well lived.

She was always an avid sports fan, and in her later years, she could be found spending hours in her chair cheering on her favorite teams in college basketball and football. She loved the Hogs and rooted for the Cowboys and even enjoyed watching golf and Dancing with the Stars. She was competitive to the very end, and put up a valiant fight. She will be greatly missed and always celebrated.

Billie was a lifelong member of Winfield United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Linnie and Homer Hall and her husband, James Elliott Knox. She is survived by her children, Jim Knox and wife, Jeanne Knox, of Little Rock and Rosemary Bruton and husband, Ron Bruton, of Benton; 8 grandchildren, Weston Weeks and wife, Amanda, of Benton, Briggs Bruton and wife, JJ, of Camden, Jim Knox and wife, Katherine, of Little Rock, Danny Knox and wife, Emily of Little Rock, Alexis Cauthen and husband, Shane, of Vilonia, Tinley Washington and husband, Parker, of Cabot, Lane Tullos and husband, Stephen, of Vilonia, and Kevin Knox of Little Rock. She was also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Little Rock Funeral Home on Thursday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 1:00. Ray Williams will officiate the service. Billie will be buried at Little Rock National Cemetery at a private family service the following day.

Prayers and condolences are much appreciated for our family, but we are rejoicing over her reunion with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her service will be a celebration of life, and we invite all those who loved her to attend.
