Billy Woods

Listen to Obituary

Billy Woods departed this life on July 24 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Originally from Toccoa, GA, he joined the Air Force right out of high school. His service took him to Altus, OK where he met a lovely young woman named Lillian Kay. They married soon after and after many years of fun adventures and moving around a lot, they had 2 children.

Billy retired from the military in 1975 and eventually embarked on a second long career with the US Postal Service. As a letter carrier, he loved his walking route in Sherwood where many of his customers knew him simply as “Woody.”

Billy had many titles over the course of his life: father, grandfather, veteran, brother, uncle, friend…but none were as important to him as husband. His beloved wife preceded him in death and against all odds he lived many years following her death. He finally has taken his place next to her in heaven, along with all of his brothers and sisters. Billy is the last of his generation in the Woods family and such a powerful loss will be felt for many years to come.

Billy is survived by his daughter Kristy Woods of Los Angeles, CA, and his son Bret Woods, of Cabot, AR, along with his daughter-in-law Jennifer Woods, and his precious grandson Nash Woods. Billy also has many loving relatives in Georgia and California who will most certainly miss their Uncle Billy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4th at Smith Family Funeral Home in Sherwood, located at 7700 Hwy 107. Visitation is at 10:30am, with services starting at 11:30am.

Burial will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00pm located at 1501 W. Maryland Ave in Sherwood.

In lieu of flowers, the Woods family respectfully asks for donations to The Alzheimer’s Organization.
