Bobbie Doty

Bobbie Rushing Doty passed away on January 12, 2012 at her home in North Little Rock, with her family at her side. She was 84 years old. She was born October 29, 1927 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to the late John and Mary Rushing. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings. She is survived by her son Ralph Doty Jr, and his wife Jane, of Irvington, New York and son Steve Doty, and his wife Sheila, of North Little Rock. Two grandchildren Bonnie Doty and Christopher Doty, and step grandson Marcus Smith, and a step great granddaughter Alexis Smith.
Bobbie grew up in the small town of Hazlehurst, Mississippi during the Great Depression but her family managed to make ends meet with a garden and letting out rooms in their home. She was very athletic and played on the High School basketball team, and graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1945. She was a member of the Methodist Church there for many years.
She married and moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas in the early 1950's and was a devoted wife and mother.
She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Bobbie enjoyed all sports, but fishing and golf were her favorites. She was a member of many ladies golf associations in the Little Rock area, and was a serious contender in many tournaments over the years. When she played in mixed groups, she used the men's tees and often outdrove her male counterparts. She had numerous friends in golf, and forged many decades-long lasting relationships. Her friends Jo Oury and Jean Tarver were particularly gracious and thoughtful in helping her live an independent lifestyle her later years.
Bobbie enjoyed University of Arkansas football and basketball, and was an avid fan. She was able to enjoy the Razorback victory in the Cotton Bowl game in her final days.
Most of all, her sense of humor and storytelling skills were a joy to all of those who knew her, and will be greatly missed.
Remembrances will be held in the Narthex at Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock on Tuesday, January 17th at 1:00pm, followed by services in the sanctuary at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Baptist Health Hospice at https://www.baptist-health.com/give/donation/default.aspx
