Buford Ormand Farris, 86, of North Little Rock passed away on October 11, 2017. He was born in Bayou Meto, Arkansas on June 29, 1931 to the late Sterling Buford and Minnie Pearl Toney Farris and was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Ora Lee Farris, and by three brothers, Ollice, Pervis, and Bob Farris.
Buford grew up in the Bayou Meto and Jacksonville communities. He served in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign in 1950-52 with the Army's First Cavalry. After returning stateside, he worked for Roach Paper Company for over 40 years. He coached baseball teams of all ages and helped establish the Sylvan Hills Optimist Club and park. Buford was active in the Sylvan Hills booster club and took great pride in supporting Bethel United Methodist Church where he was a trustee. Buford was instrumental in starting a group from the church who worked the games at War Memorial Stadium from 1951-2015. In later years, Buford took great pride in being a part of his Neighborhood Watch Group
Buford is survived by his daughter, Toni Reid and husband Graham of Maumelle and son, Jerry Farris and wife Kathy of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Tabitha Johnson (Brad), Whitney O'Neal (Eric), Jonathan Worrell, and Caitlin Knight (Chris); great-grandchildren, Cade O'Neal. Elliett Knight, and Eden O'Neal; and by his daughters by default, Sandra Parker and Cathy Jo Hicks.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, 2:00 p.m., October 15, 2017 at The Pavillion, 5805 Batesville Pike Rd, North Little Rock. Memorials may be made to the Sylvan Hills Alumni Association, 9301 Trail Run, Sherwood,AR 72120 or to the Bethel United Methodist Church, 7417 Jacksonville Conway Rd
Jacksonville, AR 72076.
