Byron Wade Scheider, age 72, went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2021 after a long, hard battle with cancer. Byron was born on June 20, 1949, to the pre-deceased Colonel Rube Frank and Daphne Scheider at Barksdale Air Force base in Bossier City, Louisiana. During his childhood, he and his family were stationed around the globe at a variety of military bases. He is survived by his wife, Sue Scheider, their four children, Heather Martin (Husband, Wesley), Danielle McKay, Justin Scheider, and Tiffany Richardson (Husband, Michael), and his nine grandchildren, Chase Gravett, Anna Gravett, Olivia Gravett, Kendall and Allison Martin, Devan McKay, Kai Richardson, Zeke Richardson, and Ember Richardson. He is also survived by his sister, Renee Atkinson, and brother-in-law, Ron Atkinson.
Byron was an avid reader and loved to learn. His wisdom, sense of humor, quick wit, and love of life made him a joy to be around. He loved to dream, sing, dance, and eat chocolate. He also loved camping, wood working, and writing. But more than any of that, he loved the Lord and his family. Byron taught multiple classes at church and discipled others to know Christ through small groups and Sunday School. He was always talking about his "beautiful bride" and how proud he was of all his kids and grandkids.
Byron’s freshman year of college was spent at Texas A&M, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He later transferred and graduated from Northeast Louisiana State University with his baccalaureate degree. He went on to complete his master’s degree at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the field of social work. Byron was an amazing therapist whose 42 years of work encompassed a variety of people from all walks of life. From his time at the Veterans Administration working with veterans, to his years serving students in the Little Rock School district, to his private practice with individuals, couples, and families, Byron had a wonderful way of helping people find freedom and healing. He was a teacher to hundreds of people, a mentor to many others, and a friend to everyone he met. His life was such a gift!
Byron's memorial will be held at First Assembly of God North Little Rock on August 21. The visitation will begin at 10am with a service to follow at 11am.
