Listen to Obituary

Carmen "Wendell" Simpson, Jr., born on August 31, 1955, in Conway, Arkansas, passed away on December 14, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Wendell leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication to those he loved.

For many years, Wendell dedicated himself as a hardworking owner of a lawn care business, where he built strong relationships with his customers. He was not merely a service provider; he was a friend who took the time to engage with each customer, checking in on their well-being and extending kindness through odd jobs that contributed to their comfort. His work ethic mirrored his character—Wendell always went above and beyond for others.

Wendell was known for his warm personality and his caring nature. He had a heart of gold and was described as everyone’s friend, always willing to lend a hand whenever it was needed. His unconditional love for his family knew no bounds; he was a proud and supportive Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was often seen at their sporting events, cheering them on and celebrating their every achievement. Wendell opened his home to his mother-in-law, “Nannie,” treating her as if she were his own mother, which demonstrated his boundless capacity for love and generosity.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Gwen Simpson of Benton, Arkansas; his children, Aaron Poe and wife Dena of Benton, James Simpson of Benton, Drew Simpson and wife Alecia of Benton, and Patrick Simpson and wife Taylor of Benton; along with his cherished grandchildren: Allison Dempsey and husband Branson, Catelyn Garcia, Haley Poe, Alyssa Poe, Dawson Simpson, Braxton Simpson, Bentley Simpson, Jackson Simpson, Collyns Simpson, Oaklyn Simpson, Ava Simpson, and Brody Simpson; and great-grandchildren Mylee Dempsey, Laine Dempsey, Cohen Dempsey, and Joely Doane. He is also survived by his brother, Jody Simpson of Glen Rose, Arkansas, and a host of family and friends who will forever hold dear their memories of Wendell.

Wendell was preceded in death by his daughters, Carmin Simpson and Allison Chambliss; his parents, Carmen W. Simpson, Sr. and Gladys (Jones) Simpson; and his brother, Wayne Simpson.
