Carolyn Isgrig
Carolyn June Isgrig (born Freeman) was born on June 12, 1932 and passed away on March 31, 2017. She was born in Rose City, AR and graduated from NLR High. She played the bells in the school band.
Carolyn met a flyboy, fell in love, married, and moved to Long Island, NY. She had three children, Mike Isgrig (Kim), Susan Kelly (Matthew Parrott), and Daiquiri (Lonnie Williams).
When Carolyn wasn't raising her family and keeping her home she was rubbing elbows with celebrities at Mama Leoni's and lolling on the beach at Montauk. She had an F-101 fighter aircraft named after her, 'C' Bird. She became semi famous in Air Force circles for a dinner she once served her husband in the stag bar of the SCAFB Officer's Club. Her pie was renown!
Carolyn moved to Europe where she resided mainly in the Netherlands. She watched the running of the bulls at Pamplona, shopped the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, snow skied at Garmisch, and visited Malmo, Sweden, a place her husband had never been!
Carolyn then moved with her family to Okinawa, Japan during the height of the Vietnam War. She helped the war effort by entertaining and supporting the injured troops at Camp Kui Medical Ctr. While there, she became a charter member of a women's mini bike Motorcycle Club, the Hellion's Honeys, who terrorized base housing on Naha AFB in the late 1960s!
She came back to the US in January 1971 and lived for a time in Florida and New Mexico. Carolyn came home to AR in the late 70's and started a 20 yr career for herself at a Little Rock Urology clinic as an office manager, from which she retired.
Carolyn leaves this world with six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one on the way, who love and miss their Grammy!
Our mother traveled the world and made life long friends everywhere she went. She was possessed of a keen mind and a quick wit! She taught her children to be curious and open minded about all the many cultures and religions they came in contact with. All and all, she lived an amazing life for a little girl from Rose City, AR!
A memorial service will be held for Carolyn at the 1st Presbyterian Church at 8th and Scott in LR, Sat, April 8th at 4:00 pm.
