Carolyn Gore Thomas, age 97, joined her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her husband, parents, and many other loved ones for a Christmas celebration on December 24, 2012. Carolyn was born on February 2, 1915 in Oswald, Oklahoma to parents Thomas Milton and Maude (Park) Gore.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter and son-in-law; Sherry and Ray Burkhalter of Benton, Arkansas, one grandson; Thomas Burkhalter and wife Tammy of Benton, three great grandchildren; Tylor, Tiffany and Taylor Burkhalter, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and will miss her always.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved companion and husband of 70 years; Walter Jake Thomas.
Carolyn was a member of Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sevier County. She was employed as the first woman teller in the state of Arkansas at the First National Bank in De Queen in the late 1930's. She retired from Louisiana Bank and Trust in Shreveport. She loved to play bridge with her friends. She was an extremely talented seamstress who loved sewing for her family. She and her husband had traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Carolyn was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Mubby and will be remembered as a great lady by her family and everyone who knew her.
Graveside service will be Monday, December 31st at 1:00 P.M. at Millwee Cemetery in Horatio, AR, Sevier County interment to follow.
