Carrol Sumler of Austin, Arkansas passed away August 13, 2020. He was born January 7, 1942 to Wilson and Virgie Sumler at the base of Round Mountain near his home in the 16th Section Community of northern Lonoke County. Carrol was a graduate of Cabot High School (1960). After high school he began a career in garment manufacturing, quickly working his way into management at Kellwood Company in Lonoke, Arkansas. He later managed garment plants in Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana before his career took him to Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Morocco, and finally to the Yucatan Peninsula as he finished his career with Jordache Corporation near Cancun, Mexico.
Carrol’s job with Jordache would take the farm boy all over the world. He set foot in 32 countries and flew more than 5 million miles during his lifetime. In 2007, he returned to the family farm and spent much of his retirement playing golf, his passion, with his friends at Rolling Hills Country Club.
He is survived by his children Deanne Moore and husband, Jeff of Searcy, Leanne Lynn, Shane Sumler, and wife, Janet, all from Cabot. He was the proud grandfather to nine: Annie Keese, Jared Moore, Luke Moore, Hannah Lynn, Sadie Fritsch, Avery Lynn, Jordan Sumler, Kristen Sumler, Emily Sumler and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Emma Jean Spruiell of the 16th Section Community. Carrol was loved by his extended family and by many friends from all over the United States and the world.
Memorial gifts can be made in his honor to UAMS Myeloma Institute, Little Rock, Arkansas for the continued research into the treatment of multiple myeloma.
