Carroll Birge

Carroll Lonnie Birge, 68, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at his home in Damascus, Arkansas after a sudden illness. Carroll was born on March 16, 1949 in DeQueen, Arkansas to Coolidge and Verba Lee Birge. He grew up in DeQueen and graduated from DeQueen High School. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He was a Certified Public Accountant and spent most of his professional career in Little Rock as an Analyst for Entergy. He retired in 2011.

Carroll was an avid paddler and enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the many rivers in Arkansas. He was a lifetime member of the Arkansas Canoe Club.

Following retirement, Carroll and his wife, Joy, built a retirement home on Cadron Creek in Damascus where they lived with their four dogs and a cat. In addition to paddling the creek, Carroll enjoyed exploring the area on his motorcycle.

Carroll was a member of The Church at Rock Creek in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Mary Birge and Maynard and Berta Smith, and his father, Coolidge Birge. He is survived by his mother, Verba Lee Birge of DeQueen; brother, Dexter Birge and wife, Lynda of Emory, Texas; sister, Jerri Lynn Birge of DeQueen; wife, Joy; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Heather Birge of Little Rock; daughter, Jill Birge of Damascus; and grandchildren, Lila, Oliver and Joseph.

Services will be Friday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), officiated by Paul Truett. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City.
