Charles Burks

Charles A. Burks, 74 of Vineland, New Jersey passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011 at home surrounded by his children. Mr. Burks was born in Bedford, Michigan, raised in Hollywood, Arkansas and was a longtime resident of Malvern, Arkansas prior to moving to Vineland in 1989. He was the son of the late Naomi (Graff) and Ernest Burks. His wife of fifty-two years, Norma S. Callaway Burks preceded him in death.

Before retiring, Charles was employed by the J. C. Penney & Value City department stores in Vineland. He was previously a heavy equipment operator for Union Carbide in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of Faith Bible Church in Vineland, New Jersey. Mr. Burks loved his black coffee and collecting coffee grinders, woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, watching the Phillie's and always made time for his family.

Survivors are four children, Susan Lynn and husband, John Pantilione of Vineland, New Jersey; Charles Burks and wife, Renate of Millville, New Jersey; Rev. Andrew Burks and wife, Jennifer of Malvern, Arkansas; Terry Burks of Lee Summit, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Stephanie, Elizabeth, William, Brittany, Brett, Chad and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Lilli; two brothers and two sisters.

Local services were held in Faith Bible Church on Monday. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 9th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial with military honors will be at Golden Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Faith Bible Church Building Fund, 3139 E. Chestnut Ave. Vineland, New Jersey 08360.
