Charles Edward Roberts, Jr., 74, graduated to his heavenly home August 17, 2024. Charles (also known as Chuck or Charlie) was born in Muncie, Indiana to Charles Edward Roberts, Sr. and Wilma Joann York Roberts on September 24, 1949.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Mabel Ann; his mother, Wilma Joann Edds; his step-father, Lewis Edds; his birth father, Charles Edward Roberts, Sr. and grandson, Hayden Paul Smith.
He is survived by his children: Autumn Lynn Ames, Mark Roberts, and Scott Roberts; grandchildren: Nathaniel Lee Gregory and Cherrish Anne Gregory and great-grandson Leo; siblings: David Roberts, Mark Steven Roberts, Doug Edds, Eddie Edds and Toni L. Boyle; extended family and special friends Anita, Donna and Kathy.
Charlie had a nomadic and independent spirit that took him across multiple states meeting a variety of people and working a variety of jobs. He was very feisty, protective and a survivor. One of his favorite expressions was, “If you see me wrestlin’ a bear, you better help the bear!” He loved his animals (except, of course, bears) including a tarantula he had for over 20 years, but he especially loved Black Dog, who kept him company and served as his confidante. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved fishing and being around the water. Charlie landed in Little Rock when his truck broke down and made his home here for over fifteen years. While his heart was guarded, there was kindness and goodness present. He never turned away a friend in need. If he had little to share, he was more than happy to share whatever he had. He was thankful for everything and everyone in his life. He affectionately referred to his Savior as “J.C.” and came to know that “God is especially fond of him.”
Special thanks to those who have cared for Charlie over the years, including the staff at Albert Pike Apartments, UAMS, Full Circle Caregiving and Arkansas Hospice at St. Vincent’s in Little Rock. Truly, Charlie was shown the love and grace of God through their acts of care, kindness and grace.
Charlie will be interred in Indiana.
