Charles C. Garms, 83, passed away December 7, 2011. Born in Little Rock to Carl L. and Frances Ladd Garms, he was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Little Rock. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of VFW Post 2256.
Preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lilly Garms and his brother, Albert Garms, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Garms; children, Carl Garms and wife, Carol of Buna, Texas, Chester Hawkins and wife, Brenda and Kevin Hawkins and wife, Anita, all of Sheridan; sister, Mrs. Polly Steffy of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren, Brittany Garms and Jordan Garms, both of Buna, Vanessa Hawkins of Sheridan, Christopher Hawkins of Anchorage, Alaska, Kayla Ring and Kara Ring, both of Sheridan; and great-grandchildren, Kristopher Ring, Mason Yates and Brennon Ponder, all of Sheridan.
The family offers special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 1-D at the North Little Rock Veterans Nursing Home for their love and care. Memorials may be made to the NLR VA Nursing Home, 2200 Ft. Roots Dr., No. Little Rock, AR 72114.
Services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 314 E. 8th St., officiated by Pastor Ron Bacic, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).
