Charles (Chuck) E. Hughes age 88 of Amity, AR died Saturday, January 26, 2013. Charles was born November 23, 1924 at Lennox, AR the son of John R. and Cora Shepherd Hughes. He was thirteenth of fifteen children. He left home at the age of 16 to join the CC Camp at Mt. Ida to help provide for his family. Charles would further go into the Navy during WWII. There he would see action in Europe, which included the invasion of Normandy. He was discharged in 1946 and would reside in California for 25 years working for McDonnell Aircraft and later in 1970 transfer to St. Louis, MO with McDonnell Douglas and later becoming Boeing were he retired in 1989 with 43 years of service and retiring at Director level. Charles would find his true love and wife, Rose, in St. Louis where life would be enjoyed for 24 years until her death in 1995 and then moving back to Lennox, AR after 64 years. Charles would enjoy the peace he never knew as a child. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Mamie Evans, Myrtle Moore, Margie Henry, Isabelle Adcock and Ida Mae Butts, seven brothers, Daniel, Virgil, Woodrow, Harold, Harrell, George, Harrison, and two infant siblings.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and wonderful friends from years past from all parts of the world. Charles was a very special and unique person and will be greatly missed by all.
Graveside funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday, January 31, in the Brushy Cemetery with Donnie Lewis officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Pallbearers will be Roy and Gerald Fendley, Larry Inscore, Alvin Miller, Raymond "Bobo" Butts, and Michael Butts. Honorary pallbearer Ruben Fendley.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brushy Cemetery or American Red Cross.
