Charles Edward Strawn, 76, of North Little Rock, died Monday September 29th after a long battle with cancer. He was born December 31st, 1948, in Clarendon Arkansas, to Stella (Andrews) and Robert J. Strawn
He graduated from Metropolitan High School in 1968 and enlisted in the US Army in 1968. He served as a Helicopter Crew Chief. He left the Army in 1971.
He married Jean Merie (McDaniel) on March 7, 1969. They welcomed three sons into the world, James of Nevada, MO, Michael of North Little Rock, AR and Steven of North Little Rock, AR.
In 1980, Charles became a firefighter for East Pulaski County Fire Department by sheer accident, after setting his own yard on fire and nearly burning down his own house. He was recruited by one of the firemen to join the department. Just a few short years later he became Assistant Chief. He was a dedicated and hardworking firefighter.
In 1982, he started volunteering for Boy Scouts of America, in Troop 133, which he did for close to 20 years. He worked his way up in becoming the Assistant Scout Master. He mentored many young men, including his three sons, to achieve Eagle Scout and taught them to have fun in everything they do and not to take life to seriously.
In 1999, Charles started his own electrical company, Strawn Electric, Inc., which is still running to this day. He was a professional businessman and loved his work and clients.
Charles also loved to hunt, spending time with his grandkids and camping.
Charles is preceded in death by his father Robert Sr and his brother Robert Jr and is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean Merie Strawn; son James (Elginia); son Michael; son Steven (Shanda); grandchildren: Jacob, Austin, Ashton Victoria and Anden; mother Stella; sister Mildred (Richard), sister Sue (Randy) and brother David (Sharon).
Per Charles’ wishes, there will not be a funeral. A private family gathering will be announced at a later date.
