North Little Rock,

Charles Whitfield

Listen to Obituary

Charles Whitfield, 94, of North Little Rock departed this life for a greater walk with the Lord on Monday October 13, 2025 surrounded by immense love and his girls Debi and Brandi.

Charles served his country by his service with the Navy serving during the Korean War.

Charles did not just have one career or just one job, he was always busy. He worked Fort Roots VA Hospital in the kitchen and eventually retiring as a research lab technician in the animal lab. His “second job or part time job” was operating a 10+ unit mobile home part in NLR for over 40 years.

Charles was never the one to sit still and relax.

Charles lived a great fulfilled life, was a “jack of all trades, master of none”.

In his late eighties Charles built a house, at the age of 90+ you could find him on the lawn mower or piddling with something outside.

Charles relentless spirit and nonstop personality was evident by getting on a plane and going to Hawaii at the age of 92 and getting in a helicopter to see the magnificent islands – all without fear!

Our heavenly father broke the mold when He made Charles Whitfield. There was no one else like him and there will never be another Charles, Uncle Charlie, Daddy, and Papa like him.

Charles would give you the shirt off his back, help you with any project, lend a ear or shoulder, whatever you needed – everyone knew that he would be there for you. Everyone called Uncle Charlie.

A true testament to his enduring life he is proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years Mrs. Monteen Whitfield formally of Mayflower and only loving son Gary; his parents Birdie and Lunie Whitfield as well his siblings and their spouses Rena Mae and Jodie Hamby, Coy and Alta Whitfield, Carroll and Helen Whitfield, Patricia and Durl (Short) Tackett, Eddie and Floyd Hughes, Mary and Johnny Peeler, and Baby Boy Whitfield.

Charles is survived by his loving daughter Deborah J Freeman who provided exemplary love, caregiving and opened her home during the last years of his life; his only granddaughter Brandi Freeman who was always Papa’s little girl. He is also survived by a host of amazing nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews – too many to name here but all are within our hearts.

Honorary pall bears are: Jerry Hughes, Doug Long, Johnny Aldridge, Danny Whitfield, Mike Whitfield, Ralph Huett, Terry Siepert.

Graveside services officiated by Bro. John Hamby, and with military honors, will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 16, 2025 with interment at Edgewood Cemetery next to his loving wife. Services entrusted by NLR Funeral Home.
