Chrystal Clara Thomas Hart, age 95, passed away peacefully November 2nd at Presbyterian Village (PV), Little Rock, Arkansas. Born 1926 in Oneida, Tennessee, she was the third of five children of Reason S. Thomas and Mary Cross Thomas: Roy Orlando, Orville Lee, Orison Maynard and Mary Lou Parrott, all predeceased.
Attending Crossville College in TN, her work history included secretarial positions at Oak Ridge Nuclear Plant, Oak Ridge, TN., New Orleans and she later completed LPN certification from St. Vincent Infirmary where she worked for over 10 years. Mom enjoyed community service as an election poll and food pantry worker.
She met George Theodore (Ted) Hart in New Orleans and married March 1945. Together for 60 years, there are eight children, all surviving: George, Valeria, David (Janet), Greg (Vickie), Glenn (Nancy), Gwen (Bill-deceased), Philip (Shelley) and Janet (Tim); 22 grandchildren and over 33 great grandchildren including stepchildren.
Mom lived a full, caring life both as our mother and individual; she was our role model to be confident yet humble, responsible, hardworking, and to have concern and compassion for others. Our home was a gathering place of friends and family – we cherish memories of our family get togethers full of love, fun and good food. She loved gospel music, bridge, our many Scrabble and Qwirkle games, reading, gardening and international travel with Dad and family. She was a member of First Christian Church and attended chapel at the Presbyterian Village chapel. Mom and Dad lived their Christian faith and values in their everyday lives, and the love and support provided to us.
We are grateful for the support of family members; Connie, care giver; Lacey, hospice nurse; Chaplain Stacey Hammons and the Presbyterian Village community that created a second home for us as we visited and cared for her.
Mom, your loving family members and friends leave you with this: "It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of us went with you, the day God called you home." (R. Tranmer).
Visitation is Saturday, November 27 beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by the service at 12:30 p.m. at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., Little Rock, AR 72205. Please wear a facemask. Interment will be at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Presbyterian Village Foundation, 510 N. Brookside Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205.
