Mary Lucinda “Cindy” Middleton, 69, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Cindy lived a life marked by dedication, strength, and a deep love for others.
Cindy devoted many years of her life to education, serving as a teacher who left an indelible mark on countless students. She was well-loved not only by her pupils, but also by fellow educators and the wider community she faithfully served. Cindy believed in setting high expectations and refused to let her students give up on themselves. She had a rare gift for seeing potential where others saw difficulty, and she took pride in helping young people find their way. The many letters she received from former students stand as a testament to the lasting impact she made.
Beyond the classroom, Cindy was known for her strong spirit and unwavering character. As an older sister, she was a protector by nature; fiercely loyal and always willing to stand up for those she loved. That same strength carried through her life and was evident even in her final weeks, as she faced her illness with quiet resolve and grace, never complaining and remaining fully herself until the end.
Cindy had a passion for sports, especially football and basketball, and she spent several years sharing that love as a basketball and track coach. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, spending time at the beach, and was the best spades or card partner one could ask for. Her laughter, competitive spirit, and warm presence will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her brother, Mark Middleton, and his wife, Anita, of Boerne, Texas; her nephew, Matt Middleton; her nieces, Meredith Carriker and Allie Perez; eight grandnieces and grandnephews; and many close family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert “Bill” and Marjorie Ann Middleton, of Benton, Arkansas, and her brother, Robert Lorin Middleton.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Smith Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St., Benton, Arkansas.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the close circle of friends and loved ones who surrounded Cindy with care and compassion during her final days. Your support made a difficult journey one of love and comfort, and it will never be forgotten.
Cindy’s life was one of purpose, courage, and unwavering devotion to others. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she shaped and the love she gave so freely.
