Listen to Obituary

Claudia Elizabeth “Liz” Applegarth was born on February 22, 1947, in Mayo, Florida, and passed away on January 11, 2026. Liz lived a full and meaningful life, known for her bold and spirited nature, her love of cooking, and the deep devotion she had to her family.

Liz spent many years working at Walmart, where she was admired for her strong work ethic and genuine care for customers. Her love for serving others carried into the kitchen as well. She worked at JJ’s Truck Stop and Waffle House, often cooking the night shift while her daughter waited tables. Cooking was never just a job for Liz-it was one of the ways she showed love. Her homemade breads, fried chicken, and stuffing were legendary and became a cherished part of family gatherings, filling homes with comfort, laughter, and full plates.

Family was the center of Liz’s world. She loved hosting holiday meals and bringing everyone together for game nights, where Poker and Monopoly sparked plenty of laughter and friendly competition. Her home may have been small and often crowded, but Liz never turned anyone away. She truly believed there was always room for one more at her table, and she made sure everyone felt welcome and at home. Those moments together created memories her family will hold close forever.

Liz’s bold and spirited nature was matched by her honesty and quick wit. She spoke her mind freely and without apology, often delivering her thoughts with a playful sense of humor. Her lively banter-especially with her husband-kept their home full of laughter and left those around them smiling. Life with Liz was rarely quiet and always full of personality.

When she wasn’t cooking or hosting, Liz enjoyed crocheting, diamond art, and other creative projects. These artistic pursuits allowed her to relax and express herself, often resulting in handmade items shared with those she loved.

She is survived by her children: Lee Applegarth, Jr. and wife Angela of Benton, Arkansas; Tina Rice and husband Robert of Conway, Arkansas; Levi Applegarth and wife Amie of Mitchell, South Dakota; Larry Applegarth and fiancée Stephanie of Malvern, Arkansas; and Jerry Applegarth and wife Harmony of Rochelle, Illinois. She was a proud grandmother to Larkin Bennett and wife Gabby, Jonathan Webb, Molly Webb, Jaxson Applegarth, Allie Applegarth, Nicholas Applegarth, Lucy Applegarth, Leam Applegarth, Brantley Kassel, Wyatt Battershell, Elizabeth Clay and husband Colin, Brooklyn Rice, Shane Rice, and Natalie Rice. She also eagerly anticipated the arrival of her granddaughter, Bealynn Applegarth, expected in March. Among her last wishes was the opportunity to meet her great-granddaughter, Winnie Mae Applegarth, a wish that was lovingly fulfilled and brought her immense joy. Liz is also survived by her brother, Arthur McIntosh and her sister, Aliene Harris and husband Jay; along with many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Applegarth, Sr., and several siblings in Florida. Liz will be remembered for her bold spirit, her loving heart, her laughter, and the way she brought people together. Her memory will continue to live on in the stories shared, the meals prepared, and the love she poured into her family.
