CWO4(Ret) John Patrick Powers, Jr.(Pat) died on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Patrick Powers, Sr. and Grace Mitchell Powers; step-mother, Edna Lea Powers; wife, Elaine Gloria Powers; brother, Richard Powers; sister, Marianne Powers. He is survived by his children, John M.Powers (Diane), Kathryn L. Powers, William D. Powers (Sue), James T. Powers (Elaine); his grandchildren, Jay Powers, Josh Powers, Amber Hefner, Todd Hefner (Venetta), Sunny Brune (Shawn), Kevin Powers, Amy Freeman (Brian), Kristen Yates, Jennifer Wilson (Steven) and James Powers, Jr.; his brothers, Thomas, Edward and Donald Powers; eight great-grandchildren, and future granddaughter-in-law, Aarron Eldreth.
He was a member of Holy Souls Catholic Church, retired from the U. S. Navy, veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Catholic High School in Little Rock and of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He received a second degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Pat was a registered land surveyor who worked with his father in his younger years, and then taught the subject at UALR in his later years. He was a volunteer at Helping Hand, president of the Southwest Little Rock Kiwanis Chapter, a past officer of the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Pat never met a stranger and was well loved and respected by his many relatives and friends.
The Funeral Mass took place on November 29, 2005 at Holy Souls Catholic Church, officiated by Msgr. David LeSieur. Interment with full military honors followed at Calvary Cemetery, Little Rock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helping Hand, Catherine's House or the Monsignor Francis A. Allen Trust Fund.
