Dalton E. Cartmel went to his heavenly home on August 19, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born on July 5, 1940, and proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Dalton’s career spanned many roles, including working as a steward for the Teamsters with Mopac–Union Pacific Railroad, and a long and distinguished tenure as a long-haul truck driver, traveling to all 50 states and numerous countries.
At home, Dalton could often be found under the hood of a car. His love for cars and mechanics was lifelong. He also tended acres of gardens and smoked a mean holiday ham, sharing his harvest and meals with family, friends, and neighbors.
His family, cars, and garden were the center of his world. Everything had a value, was always for sale and negotiable. If you weren’t careful, you might have found yourself part of the deal.
Dalton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dottie, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage; his sisters, Irma Pritchett and Mary Cannon; his brother, Dale Cartmel; and a great grandson, Wade Allan Madding.
He is survived by his four daughters, Donna (Kevin) Mann of Cabot, Sara Marshall of Ward, Cindy (Greg) Jones of Cabot, and Kelly (Alyssa) Journey of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Matt (Natalie) Payne, Missy (Aaron) Payne Mathis, Ashlyn (Tyler) Marshall Madding, Megan (Hunter) Marshall Perkins, and Josie Jones; seven great-grandchildren, Mallory Payne, Gage and Macey Mathis, Magnolia Cate, and Colson Asher Madding, and Charlie Claire Perkins; and his devoted companion, Sammie Finton.
Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W. Dewitt Henry Dr., Beebe. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2025, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cabot, with burial in Sumner Cemetery.
