September 16, 1957 – January 3, 2025
Age 67
David M. Ray, a devoted father, brother, and friend, passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born on September 16, 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Edward Ray and Florence (Jones) Ray. David was a proud graduate of Central High School in 1975. He furthered his education at DeVry Technical College in Dallas, Texas, where he earned an associate degree in electronics. His career in avionics systems spanned many years, and he spent much of his professional life installing and troubleshooting avionics equipment in airplanes. David loved his work, and he took great pride in training pilots on how to use the sophisticated instruments he helped install. His attention to detail and passion for his craft earned him the respect and admiration of those who worked with him.
In his personal life, David was a loving father to his children, Courtney Waggle (Elijah) and David E. Ray. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Peyton Waggle, Silas Waggle, and Rowan Waggle; siblings: Jim Lee (Ray) Ferguson, Donald Edward Ray, and Linda Ray Venczel; nieces Jennifer Ray Wood and Kimberly Ray Parker; nephews Jordan Ferguson and Joseph Ferguson, and his ex-wife, Terry (Blaylock) Smith, the mother of his children, whom he remained close friends with. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, all of whom will cherish the memories they shared with him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Florence Ray, and is survived by his children, ex-wife, siblings, and many friends who will forever remember his kindness, his infectious laughter, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved.
David was a man of many interests. He loved the outdoors, particularly camping, fishing, and boating, especially at Lake DeGray. David had a deep love for spending time with his friends and family, especially his children. He cherished many afternoons spent fishing with his son and playing rounds of golf together. One of his favorite traditions was visiting Zack's Place with both of his children, where they would share laughs, enjoy beers, and have lunch. These moments meant the world to him.
A passionate razorback football fan, he never missed an opportunity to watch a game, often surrounded by loved ones. He had a passion for classic rock music, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd. His adventurous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on January 17 at 1:30 p.m.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will miss him very much and will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
