David Starks

David Starks passed away July 10, 2023, at his home in Glenwood, Arkansas. David was born on July 9, 1954, in Stuttgart, AR to J. B. and Esther Starks. He lived in Stuttgart until his retirement in 2020 when
he moved to Glenwood, AR.

David graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1972. He played football for the 1970 State Championship Team and the 1971 State Runner-up team. David was named an All-American Football
Player in 1971. David attended Henderson State University on a football scholarship.

David began duck guiding on his own at the age of 13. He won his first duck calling title, the Junior Worlds, in 1967. In 1975, he won the State contest which allowed him to enter his first World Championship Duck Calling Contest. In 1981, David won his first World Title and repeated the win in 1984. His dominance culminated in the winning of the 1985 Champion of Champions Contest, a title so prestigious it requires retirement from the sport.

David was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Pam, his wife of 42 years; one son Cody
(Morgan) of Dallas, TX; one sister, Pam (Tracy) Campbell, a niece, Krysta Campbell (Donald Williams),
and two great-nephews, Maverick and Jayce Williams of Stuttgart, AR.

David also had a very special extended family. They include Harrell (Rita) Bivens, Mark (Mona) Fomby, Doug (Terri) Bowerman and many other nieces and nephews who loved him very much. David’s ashes will be spread in his favorite duck spot in Stuttgart, AR, lovingly referred to as “Daveman’s Hole”. A memorial plaque to honor his life will also be erected at the site.
