David Roger Weeks passed away June 7, 2017. He was born on August 18, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Hazel and Roderick Weeks. His father, Rod, was a Baptist minister, pastoring churches in the Little Rock area. In 1957 the family relocated to Star City, Arkansas where he met and married Patricia Ann Davidson, in 1960.
He was a sewing machine mechanic for the shirt factory in Star City just before surrendering to the ministry in 1965. He pastored churches in central and south Arkansas, north Louisiana and east Texas. He graduated from Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975 while pastoring Barnett Memorial Baptist Church in Little Rock. He retired from the ministry after 45 years, while he was pastoring First Baptist Church at Bernice, Louisiana for the second time.
During his ministry he traveled to Malawi, South Africa several times as a missionary. His true passion was witnessing and preaching, which he was able to do around the clock while on these mission trips.
He was an avid deer hunter and bream fisherman, and dabbled with duck hunting later in life. He was most in his element while deer hunting in Star City, where the family enjoyed spending time. He was well known for not being totally aware of the seasons or the limits, in spite of his chosen profession.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his children Doug (Leighton), Karey Gardner (Jerry) and Layne (Kristen). He has 4 grandchildren, Connelly, Taylor, Samuel and Steven. Gifts can be made to Mission Dignity at Guidestone Financial Resources SBC in Dallas, Texas, a ministry assisting retired ministers and spouses.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Good Shepherd Nursing & Rehabilitation as well as Baptist Health staff. We want to specifically mention Jake in the Emergency Department; Joe, Anna, Robert and Marshall and other staff in ICU South; Jessica and all of the caregivers on 7B, Baptist Health Hospice, as well as Drs. Smith and Lehman.
