When the Cardinal Comes
When the cardinal comes and
lights by my window,
a red flame against the stillness,
I will see your smiling face.
When sun and rain
lean close enough to paint a rainbow,
I will remember your embrace-
how love can hold both light and storm.
When I walk along the shore,
and the tide lays down its treasures,
I will hear your voice
in the soft chime of sea glass
turning among the stones.
And when the curtains lift
to a quiet wind from the sea,
I will feel you there -
moving through me gently,
warm as the love
you never stopped giving.
-Audrey
