Derek Ivor Mumford
December 26, 1931 – July 20, 2025
Derek Ivor Mumford, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, teacher, and artist, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in Wimbledon, United Kingdom, Derek’s journey took him across the world—from England to Nebraska, where he attended college and met the love of his life, Mary. The two built a life together in Arkansas, raising their three children—Jacqueline, John, and George—and eventually welcoming grandchildren into a home filled with warmth, humor, and curiosity.
Derek proudly served in the Air Force for much of his life before pursuing a career in the arts. He studied art and art education, going on to work with special needs students and serve as an illustrator for Falconjet. He never stopped creating—whether through painting, acting, or sharing stories—and had a deep appreciation for learning and expression.
A devoted volunteer, Derek gave much of his time to the local VA, where he also found camaraderie among fellow veterans and collectors. He had a passion for toys and model trains, but none ever quite compared to his love for his cats—especially his favorite, Charlie.
Derek was a gentle, patient man, always respectful and mindful of those around him. He held his Jewish faith close, and lived its values daily in how he treated others. Above all, he was a loving and devoted family man, a steady presence, and a source of quiet strength.
He is survived by his wife Mary, their children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched with kindness and creativity.
He will be missed and forever loved.
Derek will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Little Rock Funeral Home.
