Dollie Marsh

Dollie Marsh, age 98, of North Little Rock, Arkansas finished her earthly journey on Friday, February 1, 2019. Alzheimer’s was a battle Dollie won, as she now resides in the presence of Jesus with those who are fully alive.

Dollie was born September 12, 1920 to Dan J. Hudson and Leona M. (Pride) Hudson in Columbia County near Emerson, Arkansas. She was raised on a farm along with five brothers and one sister, in a loving home where there was always room at the table for everyone present at mealtime. She graduated from Emerson High School, where she was a member of the girl’s basketball team.

Soon after her graduation, Dollie left the cotton fields of Arkansas to become the wife of Robert H. Marsh. As Bob’s loving helpmate, she traveled around the world creating a home with him as he served the United States Air Force in the Philippines, Germany, Panama Canal Zone, as well as many locations in the United States. True to her upbringing, she provided meals for countless people wherever she lived.

As a mother, Dollie was wholly devoted to her two sons, raising them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She lavished them with love and attention, raising two sons to be wonderfully accomplished men. However, she was always willing to stand in for anyone who needed a mother’s love.

Wherever she worshiped, Dollie could always be found serving others. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, sang in choirs, and eagerly served refreshments or meals at every opportunity. She had a deep love and respect for God’s Word, attending many Bible studies. Dollie considered it her privilege and duty to pray for others, especially for her family and pastors, for whom she prayed “without ceasing”. She participated in many, many prayer gatherings during her lifetime. As a member of First NLR, she was a member of the Challenger Sunday School class, served as a Greeter, volunteered with Membership Services, and joyfully served in the kitchen any time she could. Her favorite activity at First NLR by far was praying with various groups through the years. For many years Dollie enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, Baptist Health, serving at both the Baptist Memorial and Baptist Springhill locations.

Everyone will remember Dollie’s infectious smile, endearing laugh, and famous sweet tea. Anyone who entered her home won’t soon forget the fragrance of sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls, fried cornbread, and homemade biscuits tempting every visitor; resistance was futile. “Bless your sweet heart” will always ring in the memories of those who knew and loved her as Mother, Mom, Mamaw, Aunt Dollie, Ms. Dollie, Sister Cornbread, Sista Sweet Tater, Friend, Bonus Mother and Bonus Grandmother.

Dollie is survived by one son, Charles Randall Marsh (Rhonda), daughter-in-law Carolyn Marsh, three grandchildren, Penny Plunkett (Greg), Melody Jones (Matt), Jacob Marsh, and three great-grandchildren, Walker Plunkett, Morgan Jones and Tyler Jones. She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and many extended family members.

Dollie was predeceased by her parents, Dan and Leona Hudson, six brothers, Harold, Clyde, Homer, Adron, Leo, an infant brother, one sister, Nadine, her husband, Lt. Col. Robert H. Marsh, and her son, Robert LeRoy Marsh.

The family wishes to extend our appreciation to Dr. Greg Henson, the staff of Robinson Nursing and Rehab, and the staff of Kindred Hospice, who all provided care for Dollie lovingly and carefully. To express the depth of our gratitude would be simply impossible.

A celebration of Dollie’s life will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at noon, preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at First Assembly of God, 4501 Burrow Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas.
