Don Sims

Don Wayne Sims, age 73, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away at the VA Hospital on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.  The son of Richard and Mildred (Smith) Sims was born on August 17, 1949, in Des Arc, Arkansas.

Don moved to Aurora, Illinois where he would meet the love of his life, Carol Beach. He attended Hwy 367 Church of Christ in Austin, Arkansas. He was a Christian who loved God and his Family.

Don served in the United States Army from June 1969 to June 1971, and the Vietnam War as a crew chief and door gunner from December 1969 to November 1970.

Don loved metal detecting, hunting, looking at flea markets, and wood working. He could make friends with anyone. He was a caring, hardworking, joker, and family man. Don would do anything for his kids, grandkids, and wife.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mildred Sims; his sister, Shirley Lents; and his grandparents and great-grandparents on both sides.

Don is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Carol (Beach) Sims; two sons, Don Sims, Jr. (Sheri), and Eric Sims; and special daughter, Gidget Sims. He was a loving grandfather to Kylee (Sims) Watkins, Madison (Sims) Craig, Bret Sims, and Mikayla Sims. Don also had four great-grandchildren, his brothers, Richard Sims (Deborah), Ed Sims (Nancy), and Jim Sims; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W DeWitt Henry Drive, Beebe, AR 72012. Burial to follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, July 24, 2023, at the funeral home.
