Don Beavers passed away at the age of 81 on May 19,2024. He was born to Mollie and Jonathan Beavers in Pigeon Creek, AR. He graduated from North Little Rock High where he played tennis and was voted Friendliest Boy. He attended the University of Arkansas, and was an avid Razorback fan. He started his career as a railroad brakeman. He was later elected Legislative Director of the United Transportation Union where he loved serving his members. He was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, appointed to the AEDC and was Chairman of the North Little Rock Civil Service Commission. He was past President of the Arkansas Association of Lobbyist. He was also active in politics representing Arkansas as National Democratic Committeeman, serving as a delegate to six National Conventions and a proud Arkansas Traveler for President Bill Clinton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, two sons who he said were “God’s greatest gift”, Jon Beavers (Tracy) and Jeremy Beavers. Four grandchildren: Emily and Jack Sparkman and Alex and Mary Alden Beavers. Brother Charlie Beavers, Brother-in-Law Joe Whalen (Yvonne).
Funeral services will be held at the church where he and Mary Frances were married, Lakewood United Methodist at 10:00am Friday, May, 24; with visitation at Smith Funeral Home Thursday, May 23, from 5-7pm.
