Doris “Dot” Elizabeth Griffin, age 95, of North Little Rock went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 9, 2025. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was also a faithful, long-time member of Landmark Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Dot was born on March 1, 1930 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to James Solomon Wingard and Dorlis Mabel Sanders Wingard. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather John Vester O’Mary, husbands Thomas Spencer and Robert Griffin, brothers Joe Wingard and H.B. Wingard, sister Lavone Earnest, and sons David Spencer and Neal Griffin.
Survivors include two children, Lillian Merice and Richard (Ranea) Spencer, son-in-law Bill Merice, daughter-in-law Renee Spencer, sister Edna Nesbitt, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Dot enjoyed serving her Lord by faithful church attendance, bible study, teaching Sunday School for many years and sending birthday cards to other church members. She worked hard for years to learn how to play the piano and organ and was blessed to be able to play at services occasionally. She loved playing card and board games at family gatherings at her home and seemed to be the happiest when she had a house full of family. A large portion of her life revolved around raising and taking care of her special needs son Neal. She immersed herself in his school activities and even drove the school bus for his school in order to make sure he was safe under her watchful eye.
Shopping was a favorite pastime for her and she loved seeking out bargains at the thrift stores and goodwill stores and even sewing some of her own clothes. She amassed a large collection of clothes and shoes, always at a discount of course, and was always sure to be dressed smartly for whatever occasion. As her health failed in her later years she enjoyed a much quieter lifestyle, but still became known as the “Bingo Queen” at her assisted living facility.
The family will be holding a visitation service between 5 PM and 8 PM on Thursday, May 15 at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home. Internment will be at Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle, Arkansas on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
