Dorothy Anne Basden, affectionately known as “Dot,” passed away on November 12, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was 81 years old. Dorothy was born on March 3, 1944, in Enterprise, Oklahoma, to loving parents and lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and devotion to her family and community.

Dorothy is proceeded by her dad Fred Basden, her mom Freeda Gulley, and her brother Bobby Basden. She was survived by her sisters, Alice Boyle and Betty Crosley; her sons, Jon and Val Basden; and her daughters, Jama Walter and Meca Sprague. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her family to carry forward.

Dorothy was known throughout her community for her generous spirit. She had a knack for making people feel loved and appreciated through her thoughtful gestures. One of her most beloved traditions was picking pecans and baking homemade pies, which she freely gave to family and friends around town. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort, where the aroma of hot rolls, cinnamon rolls, and homemade chicken noodle soup often filled the air. These culinary creations were not just meals; they were expressions of her love and care.

Beyond her acts of kindness, Dorothy was admired for her unwavering work ethic. She approached every task with diligence and determination, rarely missing a day of work throughout her life. Her commitment and perseverance served as an inspiration to those around her.

In her leisure time, Dorothy enjoyed the thrill of bargaining at yard sales, the mental challenge of completing crossword puzzles, the tranquility of fishing, the entertainment of watching a western starring John Wayne and, of course, the joy of cooking. These hobbies brought her simple pleasures and allowed her to unwind and recharge.

Dorothy’s four children, Jon, Jama, Val, and Meca, remember her as the strongest person they have ever known. As a single mother, she taught them the value of hard work and the importance of providing for family, even during challenging times. They will forever be grateful for her unwavering love, support, and the sacrifices she made to ensure their well-being.

In a final message to their mother, they shared, “We love you, Mom. You will forever be in our hearts.”

Dorothy Anne Basden will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
