Dorothy Hanner

Dorothy Louise Hanner, 77, of Garner, AR passed away peacefully on November 13th, 2023.

Dorothy was born on August 14, 1946, in Garner, AR to her parents Alfred & Clara (King) Johnson. After graduating from Beebe High School, she started working as a seamstress for Ottenheimer in Lonoke, AR.  Dorothy continued to work in the garment industry for several years at Bankroft of Cabot and Suburban Casuals of Beebe. She retired from Matthews International in 2010.

She is survived by her three sons Kevin (Yvette) of Augusta, GA, Heath (Wendy) of Garner, AR, and Michael of Garner, AR; and brother Doyle (Carolyn) Johnson of Cabot; sisters Frances (William) Langston of Vinity, and Margaret (Bobby) Steward of Beebe. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren (Lauren (Zachary), Gwendolyn, Jarred, Sarah, Allyson, and Jasmine) and two great-grandsons (Maddox and Rowan); and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Clara, husband Butch Hanner, brothers Charles and Donald, and her baby sister Audrey Sue.

Dorothy was the ultimate servant. As an active member of the Garner Methodist Church, she had renewed her life with Christ and served the church and community throughout the years.  She has served the Garner Community for over 15 years as the elected Mayor and on the City Council prior to then.  Dorothy also served as the secretary and first responder for the Garner Volunteer Fire Department. She cared for her ailing mother that lost her battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia in 2012 and Butch after his debilitating car accident in 2007.  Dorothy also delivered mail and meals to others in the community that didn’t have transportation or the ability to drive.

Dorothy will be missed deeply by her family and friends.  She was the best cook around and always ready to bake something sweet.  She has handmade and hemmed dresses for almost every girl in the family over the years. Dorothy also served as the barber/beautician for the family for years. The toughest part of her life was probably raising her three boys, who will miss her the most!

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15th from 6-8 pm and the funeral will be on Thursday, 16th at 10:00 am at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W. Dewitt Henry Dr. in Beebe, with burial following immediately at the Garmer Cemetery. View the online registry at www.smithfamilycares.com/westbrook
